Those who True to themselves

Those who oppress us.

Heavily influenced by artists such as Lauryn Hill and Bob Marley,this is reflected in her musical style as she flows from sexy R n B , to Hip Hop, to rootsie Reggae. Ashlekah is an up and coming singer/ songwriter, lyracist and poet in her own right.Some my know her as Cryptic or Street Lioness . She has been penning lyrics since the tender age of 11, poetry being her first love, she wrote in a style that exhibited a maturity not characteristic of that of an 11 year old girl. At age 12 she had a poem featured in the poetry anthology by Michel Rosen “ A Pint of Unleaded Please” And at that point decided she wanted to be a poet. So she spent a lot of her free time going to poetry workshops in the local community and would be asked to write and recite poetry at local events.


Being inspired by groups such as The Fugees she started writing “rhymes” and turned her hand to song writing, which she would perform to her friends and teachers. “… Most of the songs I perform today were written when I was in my early teens, it’s just I have a better vocabulary now, so I can express myself better…” As a young teenager Ashlekah had a lot of issues relating to her troubled childhood and found writing songs cathartic as it was the only place she felt she could “be real”.

At 16 years old she had made up her mind that she wanted to be a solo artist but didn’t have the support to pursue this dream and basically didn’t know how to get into the music industry. She enrolled to do A level drama at her sixth form where she found her love for the stage. Still unsatisfied, she dropped out as she couldn’t shake her hopes of being a vocal artist.

She continued writing lyrics almost daily and would go to various open mic nights where she received good feedback and developed her confidence to perform to large audiences around London and The West Midlands .


In 2002 she decided to settle in Manchester and had her first experience of recording in a studio, which was where she recorded her first single “Movin on” the melody taken from The Fugees hit “ Ready or Not” ( way before P.Diddy and Mario Winans had the idea)!
She studied performing arts at Stockport college from 2003 - 2004 and is now at Trafford college’s Manchester Music Base on the Vocal Artist 3 programme where she is perfecting vocal technique and gaining performing experience as a soloist.
Ashlekah is currently working on her first album which will showcase her raw talent.


Fans can look forward to hearing her deeply conscious lyrical content as she raps in a style that stays true to her roots and enjoy her distinctive vocals as she reminisces on lost loves or examines the condition of 'man’s Existence'.
“ What I need people to understand from the get go, is that I always keep it real, so that’s what you can expect from my music. When you listen to my lyrics you will see that I don’t sugar-coat anything.” Whatever the subject matter you can be sure you’ve never heard it expressed the way Ashlekah does. Her style is vibrant, her rhymes are true and her vocals are that of a Street lioness.
